jack Samsung Jack reviewedSamsung’s Jack always was a copy of the Snap, and didn’t get too much press attention especially due to Samsung’s open statement that the device will not leave the USA. However, BrightHand got their hands onto the box – and was pretty happy except for the slightly cramped keyboard:

As one of my colleagues put it, the Samsung Jack could be described as a “me too” device in a long list of similar mobile phones. It isn’t an awful device, or even a bad one, but more middle-of-the-road in that it doesn’t have anything terribly unique to set it apart from the rest of the pack.

It has acceptable voice quality, but not great; it offers good performance, not blazing speed; a pretty good keyboard, but not a great one — you get the idea.

It isn’t a bad device, and the light weight, good navigation buttons, and nice external speaker as well as an excellent camera certainly speak in its favor. The price is also a great selling point — just $99 after mail-in rebate. It’s a nice entry-level smartphone for those who may already be used to the Windows Mobile operating system, but it would be a good idea to try one out in person just to be sure.
