jack Installing third party apps to the Samsung JackDon’t ask me what drives carriers to lock down WMS devices much more than PocketPC ones – problems with application signing and rights management have plagued us since the good old days of the QTek 8500.

According to PocketNow.com, the situation is especially bad on the Samsung Jack:

The Samsung Jack is locked down. There are so many security “features” that even installing some of the most common third party software is not supported. In this video we show how to remove the security limitations and enable registry edits. After the registry is unlocked, a component is removed which will enable the AT&T MEdia Net Internet Sharing capabilities.

As it is a Samsung device, xda-developers is not interested – but the boys at PocketNow’s seem to have managed to bypass some of the security restrictions on their own.
