Dell to attack Chinese smartphone marketThe latest bit of news on Dell’s smartphone plans hits us via Reuters: they cite a variety of analysts who claim that the Chinese manufacturer Chi Mei “already considers Dell a client”.

Unfortunately, it seems to be highly unlikely that these new devices will be based on Windows Mobile:

… but a Red Office spokeswoman confirmed her company was developing an operating system for a smartphone for Dell.

“We’re still in preliminary development of the software, and haven’t done any publicity on this yet,” said the Red Office spokeswoman.

So far, Chi Mei was largely known for its pretty decent LCD monitors, which have sold well in Austria. However, the company’s push into handheld space seems to be serious…they produce devices like Palm’s Pre.
