HTC’s long-rumored Maple smartphone has just been announced by the company: Europeans will know it by the name Snap, while the US 3G version will go by the somewhat weird name S522.

Specs-wise, the device can be considered a breath of fresh air for the WMS sector – it has a 528MHZ QualComm CPU paired up with 128MB of RAM and 256MB of ROM. Unfortunately, the camera is still a 2MP one, and the screen still didn’t evolve from QVGA.
Software-wise, HTC has tweaked Windows Mobile Standard 6.1 heavily…the device includes a so-called unified inbox along with the previously mentioned Inner Circle feature (pictured above).

having an utterly awesome keyboard certainly helps in that regard. It’s easy to pass off HTC’s latest portrait QWERTY handset as a bit frumpy from photographs, but trust us when we say that it’s totally passable in person (some might even call it insanely attractive) — think of it as the anti-8900, if you will.
