WMS enthusiasts have been waiting for the Motorola Alexander for quite some time: its specs were insane when it was first leaked a few months ago, and still sound more than impressive at the current point of time (especially if we look at the dire standard of current WMS hardware):

Unfortunately, it looks like the waiting was in vain. The usually well-informed DigiTimes news service states the following:

The paper also noted that Motorola has canceled the planned launch of the Alexander handset and also reduced the number of markets in which it will sell its A3100 smartphone. Compal has been shipping the A3100 to Motorola and had previously landed the orders for the Alexander.

Honestly spoken: I have no idea why Motorola is abandoning its once highly-successful WMS line. Devices like its Q9 were so insanely successful that some companies (e.g. Mobile-Stream) created custom versions of their products for these devices. Microsoft frequently acknowledged the power of these handsets, and stated that the Q9 was part of its “million-seller” list.

Unfortunately, the signs have been bad for some time: Motorola’s Q11 never materialized outside of Brazil, and the various Q9 updates have yet to be released. Thus, the discontinuation of the Alexander makes this little more than a continuation of the obvious…
