commserver Microsoft releases Office Communicator Mobile 2007Microsoft Austria has informed me about the release of a new Windows Mobile-related product called Office Communicator Mobile. It is described as following:

Microsoft® Office Communicator Mobile 2007 is an enterprise messaging client for mobile devices. Extending the reach of Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 and Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007, Communicator Mobile 2007 delivers anywhere access, rich presence, and enterprise instant messaging (IM) that helps people quickly find and communicate with each other.

Office Communicator Mobile 2007 is designed with a similar look and feel to the desktop version of Microsoft Office Communicator 2007. By taking advantage of existing infrastructure investments, Communicator Mobile 2007 minimizes cost while making it easy to deploy, manage, and scale.

The product seems to be some sort of “chat service” for Windows (Mobile) environments with an Exchange server. It seems to be some sort of a private IRC server on steroids, with features such as calendar sharing added for posterity.

Microsoft Austria has furthermore provided me with a 2MB datasheet (.doc format) – hit this link to find out more.

P.S. I am currently trying to get an interview with a product manager for this critter…stay tuned for further info as we get it!
