The usually well-informed news service DigiTimes has just posted a short news update on the Attila/Alexander devices.

motorola alexander motorola attila live DigiTimes on Attila and Alexander

Compal Communications has received orders for two Windows Mobile-based PDA phones, codenamed the Alexander and Attila, from Motorola, according to a Chinese-language Commercial Times report.

….

which also noted that shipments of the two PDA phones are now set in the first quarter of 2009 instead of the fourth quarter of 2008 as originally planned.

I personally can’t complain too much about their choice of partners – Compal is a rather reliable ODM, and will probably serve them well.

While the delay probably will annoy quite a few of you (especially those waiting for the Alexander), I can fully understand their commercial motivation. Christmas is so close that a launch would be a total fiasco (think no stock, buggy firmware, etc) – waiting to the traditionally quieter Q1 is a smart choice.

Furthermore: print ad space usually is cheapest in January…so that could very well be another reason…
