PanTech Duo goes to Mexico

0a PanTech Duo goes to Mexico

So far, Pantech’s dual-slider WMS has been known as a more-less AT&T exclusive box. However, this is now set to change, as the Mexican Carrier Telcel plans to add the box to its line-up.

According to MobilitySite, the carrier outlines its roaming and web surfing/email checking capabilities. As of now, no information is available on pricing though…

TamsIJungle launches – TamsWMS goes iPhone

 TamsIJungle launches TamsWMS goes iPhone

The image above speaks a clear language – the Tamoggemon Publishing team finally stands behind its threat and goes to the world of the Malus portabilii.

From now on, expect us to cover all things Apple-related. As we are funded entirely by our sponsors and are hosted in a country with intact press freedom for tech journalists, this means trouble for the Cupertinians… Big trouble!

The worm is now inside the fruit…keep an eye on our progress here:

Windows Mobile Smartphone + carrier ad guy = funny blooper

We have seen hoaxes that claim to add touchscreen functionality to Windows Mobile Smartphones: however, they always came from immature analysts so far. This has now changed – look at the following image from the promotional brochure of the Austrian carrier A1:

When looking at the Samsung i640s screen, we can clearly see the UI of PocketPC 2002 or 2003:

Hiring a designer: x Euro.
Making a brochure: y Euro

Samsung BlackJack III – when will they shut up?

Sometimes, the gullibility of my colleagues is amazing. We had a leaked AT&T roadmap stating that the BlackJack III won’t have a touchscreen; the last BlackJacks didn’t have touchscreens, and so on. Nevertheless, the folks at AVING’s don’t grow tired when it comes to peddling Samsung i780 shots as BlackJack III prototypes.
phone Samsung BlackJack III when will they shut up?

Once again: it is highly unlikely that the BlackJack III will be a touchscreened device. WM and WMS devices are too different – average users won’t be able to make the jump without significant effort…

For me, the really interesting thing is something else: is the Windows Mobile Smartphone platform really as unpopular as my colleagues claim it is? Yes, of course – people coming from S60 or touchscreen systems will need to rethink their ways: but the average customer seems to love his Windows Mobile Smartphone. Handango’s Yardstick has shown significant growth in the WMS sector…

If you look at TamsWMS; you will see less updates than with my other sites. The reason could very well be that the WMS market is slower than others; could this aggravates my colleagues due to lack of news to post?

Do you think that WMS is on its way out?

Opera Mobile 9.5 for Windows Mobile – delayed

Apparently, something is truly rotten in the state of Denmark. The release S60 version of Opera Mobile 9.5 has been postponed to an undefined date in the future – and now the recently-announced beta of Opera Mobile 9.5 has been delayed, too.

FHAUGE from Opera Mobile claims that they

… encountered a few bugs last week that we needed to fix before we launch. Our engineering team worked through the weekend to fix the bugs. Even though our release is a beta, we’d rather spend the extra time to fix them, thus giving you a better experience. The fixes are almost complete now, but we need two more days to run the build through our quality assurance testing. The new launch date is now set for the 17th.

Let’s stay tuned if the program actually drops – I have a stomach feeling that we will see yet another delay…

Latest anti-terror weapon: Windows Mobile

The success of the US attack on Iraq can easily be measured by looking at the development level of the victim: what once was a highly-developed state is now among the top-5 dysfunctional countries… .

Nevertheless, Iraqis are now treated with some Windows Mobile love: the Pentagon will soon issue Windows Mobile-powered lie detectors to troops. The systems(based on a TDS Rander device) cost over 7500$ a piece and are said to deliver accuracies between 50 and 80%.

The MSNBC has loads of further info – click the link below for more lie-detector goodness:

Motorola Q9 “Napoleon” spotted

Motorola’s Q9x phones have always sold pretty well, becoming the “Treo” of the Palm OS. The Boy Genius’s team now managed to get their hands onto yet another Q9 variant – the so-called Napoleon is a EVDO RevA handset with the following distinctive features:

  • World-Wide GSM roaming capabilities (no word about EGDE/UMTS; though)
  • Finger-Print scanner on the back
  • Stereo speakers
  • WiFi

In general, the device is rated pretty well. However, the keyboard and 5way nav were described as “stiff and difficult to use”.

A full gallery with loads of shots is available from The Boy genius – head over and (at least) look at the totally weird box the device ships in:

BrightHand releases June’s “mind share” stats

The folks at BrightHand’s have managed to somehow generate stats that show which devices stir up the most “user activity” – their results are posted once a month and usually provide pretty interesting reading.

Before we get into the nitty-gritty, here’s an overview of the “Mindshare” distribution. Palm and S60 get one device into the top list, Apple manages to squeeze in two, and PocketPC’s take up the remaining six boxen. Windows Mobile Smartphones are not represented this month:
